I hope you are doing well = having fun with grandkids! ;-)
Happy birthday Bella.
Here all these decades I thought you were younger than me!
I still think that you were the prettiest girl on campus.

Janice was my "first love"...poor girl!...sweetest young lady on the planet: poised, proper, polite...I was the most inept, clueless, witless, aimless, pointless...I asked her to go steady while hardly knowing her...anyway...their home was friendly and accomodating...all sweet people, even the chief.
One day Manuel (active this site) and a couple of his friends pulled up to me in a car as I was walking home...offered me a ride...told them I was just a short way from home...they insisted...I forget who was driving, but Manuel told the driver that the chief of police lived just down the block...and encouraged him to zoom by, squealing tires as went around corner near his house...chief just happened to be in front when this happened...and jumped into his police care (unmarked) and lit out after us...several blocks/turns later the nit wit driver finally pulled over...I was blistering mad screaming at him all the way...I tried to shrink into a golfball sized to no avail...chief saw me and frowned at me.....took me a long time to like Manuel after that...years to smile about it... :-)
I think I remembered street name last post: Hale was where I lived prior to Cuberley days...I think it was Grove street...groves of trees on other side when we moved in...but most cut down as I (think) I remember...
The young man that killed himself was "black"...my take was/is that being small AND "a minority" was too much for him...I hate the division of racism today as much as I did then...never could understand it...
A short time after I faded away from Janice I was struck big time by Jonny Knox...she was in my biology class...she and I (at least in my mind) 'competed for first place' in that class...she had wonderfully dark skin and perfect contrasting white teeth...she was the most prim and proper student I remember in my life: sat perfectly in her desk, back strait, feet properly placed, head high, quiet, smart,....I timed my exit from class many times to coincide with her...asked her a few times if I could carry her books to next class.,.she could not understand why...as a stupid kid I asked stupid questions to which she was always (a bit suspiciously) polite...then one day she was gone...no more Jonny Knox...my payback I guess for ignoring the life out of my previous 'steady'...he family moved away...
